Lisey Landon lost her husband Scott two years ago, after a twenty-five-year marriage of profound, sometimes frightening intimacy.

Scott was a celebrated, award-winning, novelist.

And a complex man.

Lisey knew there was a dark place where her husband ventured to face his demons. Boo'ya Moon is what Scott called it; a realm that both terrified and healed him, that could eat him alive or give him the ideas he needed to write and live.

Now it's Lisey's turn to face her husband’s demons. And what begins as a widow's effort to sort through her husband's effects becomes a perilous journey into the heart of darkness.

4 stars Horror, Love & Nostalgia.
The narrative is different than typical King, but he succeeds with what he sets out to do: combine horror and love into a melancholy, nostalgic story. I thought the exchange between husband and wife was beautiful and true to life. I loved the literary references throughout and how they mixed with the characters. The idea is brilliant and untapped: the literal realization of the world where every person's dreams and imagination resides, and the horror hidden deeply within. It is one of the most intelligent and thoughtful novels King has ever written. Though not his best, I feel that Lisey's Story is well worth the read. It is a generally slow read, compared with his other works, and as also typical with King, the ending is abrupt and slightly anticlimactic. If you are entering King's world for the first time, I would recommend Salems' Lot or The Shining to start with, as they move more quickly. Overall, Lisey's Story was amazing.
